Winter weddings offer some unique decorating opportunities. The colors and accessories are different than for any other season, and the extra special touches can make a big difference in the atmosphere of your reception. Since many halls already have standard wedding decorations in place, you should use make full use of your reception centerpieces to create an original look for your wedding.
Start with your color choices. For a winter theme, the most effective colors to use are blue, purple, white, and silver. These colors all go well together so you can choose to decorate mostly with one color or use them all together. Grey can also be used, but sparingly since it can appear to be dull in some lighting conditions. Keep these colors in mind for the following centerpiece ideas. Use a small wooden sleigh filled with a potted plant such as a small pine or spruce tree. You can dress up the sleigh or tree with some wide ribbon. Instead of a sleigh you can also use a basket or decorative flower pot. Guests can take home the trees and plant them as a living keepsake of your wedding. Another centerpiece idea is to have a lantern with a pretty candle and bits of pine boughs around the base of the lantern. Make sure to check that the lantern is safe to use indoors and that your hall permits using them. Hurricane lanterns are an alternative to a lantern and candle and can be found in a variety of styles and colors. Try decorating a glass plate with white or clear stones with votives in decorative holders placed among them. To add to the brilliance and to reflect some of the candlelight, place the glass plate on top of a mirror. For a classic look, use floating candles in glass bowls filled with water and decorative stones. There are a variety of shapes available for floating candles, so look for some with a winter theme such as snowflakes! A few great winter wedding favor ideas to consider are: tying a pair of mittens together with ribbon and attaching a card thanking you guest for their love and support, evergreen tree seeds or saplings, or winter themed candles. Have fun creating your winter wedding reception decorations! These are just a few ideas that you can adapt to make your wedding unique.
